A good friend!

I've been hinting for a while that someone should buy a new album for me. Stephen proved to be a good friend and picked up on my not-so-subtle hint. He "gifted" the album to me on i-Tunes. The Decemberists are an interesting band out of Portland. Their new album is a concept album. The music does not stop. Each song leads into the next song. The entire album is a story told through 17 tracks. It is different and I am learning to appreciate the story. Thanks Stephen.

Bedhead submissions

As many of you know we have a page on our family web site that is devoted to the great styles of bedhead.  We have always been open to submissions from others who believe they have great bedhead.  There are two rules to keep in mind when submitting something to the gallery of bedhead.  1.) You must be willing to have your image posted to our site.  2.) Your image must be of you or of someone who has given you permission to submit their photo.  

Last week we received three submissions for the bedhead page of our site.  Only one of the images has been accepted by our qualified team of bedhead specialists.

Please keep in mind that we are always accepting submissions for the Bedhead Hall of Fame - if you think you have what it takes.

Our friends purchased sparklers for the 4th of July. They were going to spell their names with the sparklers and take pictures of the outcome. I asked them to spell my name and send me the picture. This is the outcome. For the purposes of our friendship, I will say - great job!

20 Reasons

Below is a post from John Piper - 20 Reasons I Don't Take Potshots at Fundamentalists. I thought some of you may appreciate this list as your parents may be fundamentalists or maybe you are a fundamentalist-in-denial.

1. They are humble and respectful and courteous and even funny (the ones I've met). 2. They believe in truth.
3. They believe that truth really matters.
4. They believe that the Bible is true, all of it.
5. They know that the Bible calls for some kind of separation from the world.
6. They have backbone and are not prone to compromise principle.
7. They put obedience to Jesus above the approval of man (even though they fall short, like others).
8. They believe in hell and are loving enough to warn people about it.
9. They believe in heaven and sing about how good it will be to go there.
10. Their "social action" is helping the person next door.
11. They tend to raise law-abiding, chaste children, in spite of the fact that Barna
says evangelical kids in general don't have any better track record than non-Christians.
12. They resist trendiness.
13. They don’t think too much is gained by sounding hip.
14. They may not be hip, but they don’t go so far as to drive buggies or insist on typewriters.
15. They still sing hymns.
16. They are not breathless about being accepted in the scholarly guild.
17. They give some contemporary plausibility to New Testament claim that the church is the “pillar and bulwark of the truth.”
18. They are good for the rest of evangelicals because of all this.
19. My dad was one.
20. Everybody to my left thinks I am one. And there are a lot of people to my left.

Wordpress or Blogger?

I have a friend (yes, shocking) who has just switched from Blogger to Wordpress. I have thought about doing the same thing but wanted some advice. What are your thoughts? Blogger or Wordpress? Why? I want to know if I should switch. Come on, sell it to me. Act as if you work for the company. Why would I want to use your product?

*On a side note - not all of my Blogger blog names are available at Wordpress. That would mean I would have to change the place and possibly the name of my blog.

2 years

Today marks the 2 year point of living in Nearly, Canada and involvement in full-time ministry. I have learned more in the last two years about being a husband, father, pastor and friend than I have learned in my lifetime. As much as I have learned - I have 100 times more to learn. I thank God for His grace and mercy and I thank my friends and family for their patience!

Bryan, is this better?

In a comment here my "friend" Bryan said "Vince: in the hair department, less is more." On Saturday I was overcome with sadness over this comment and I had to make some changes. Now I hope Bryan will love me for who I am.
