Which is easier?

I am reading through The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification: Growing in Holiness by Living in Union with Christ by Walter Marshall. The book was first published in 1692 and has been updated since. In the beginning pages Marshall says -

The only way you can possibly learn how to live a godly life is by reading the Holy Scriptures. The Scriptures tell you two things about living a godly life: first, they tell you what God wants you to do (the law): second, they tell you how you can actually do it (the gospel). Which of these two is easier to learn?

Marshall answers the question and gives reason in the paragraphs that follow. What would you say? Which of these two is easier to learn and why?

I'd say that the law is easier since we all think deep down that if we DO something, we'll deserve to get to heaven on our own strength. It's easier to think that God looks down on us and sees SOMETHING that says we are worthy in our own right. The Gospel is so much harder because we cannot belive that NOTHING about us saves us. It is only in Jesus' blood on the cross that sanctifies us.

this is a trick question. It is impossible to keep the law. That is why the gospel is so infinitely valuable. Christ did what we could not. He is the only one to keep the law perfectly.

Thanks for sharing this quote. I just purchased the book from amazon. Now I need to find the time to read it.
