Transformationalisticologizeny

I have my personalized Google page set with the "word of the day" feature. One of the words today was transmogrify. The given definition is "to transform." This is the example sentence: A washing machine transmogrified into a guitar. Why wouldn't you just use "transform?"

That's as deep as my thoughts will allow me to go today.

I like the word. It has sort of a Three Stooges sound to it.

Remember the transmogrifier (sp?) in the Calvin and Hobbes comic? "Transformer" couldn't be used - it was already taken. Without this word, we would have been deprived of an excellent and hilarious series.
